MERTEL Motorsport embodies its passion for the Italian cars and racetracks in two full season entries in the Italian GT Sprint 2024 with Italian drivers.

The German team from Nuremberg with owner Siegfried Mertel and team principal Mario Grummt had appearances in the Italian GT Sprint 2023 – and were hooked.

Mario Grummt: „The full season entry is an affair of the heart – and the firm determination to be successful here, too. From 3rd to 5th of May MERTEL Motorsport will start in Misano with their squad and the driver combination of four experienced and young successful drivers to compete for nothing less than the front rows.“

These drivers will „FACE THE RACE“ with MERTEL Motorsport @mertelmotorsport in Italian GT Sprint:

Marco Verzelli / Michele La Marca compete behind the wheel of MERTEL’s successful blue 488 Challenge EVO, that will also start in the GT Cup Open Europe.

Marco Verzelli, lawyer from Bologna with passion for engines handed down from generation to generation: his father was already racing in the 50s. After ten years in the Italian Ferrari Challenge field with 355, 360, 430 …  In the 2000s he dedicated himself to hillclimbs with Ferrari 550s, then Porsche 992s – and finally prototypes on Osella. Now he is  back in a Ferrari 488 Challenge.  Verzelli: “Thanks to the MERTEL Motorsport team, the track is my true habitat, and my dream came true.“

Michele La Marca, the experienced Italian driver will compete together with Marco Verzelli – an already proven team on a Ferrari. La Marca, who raced in the Ferrari Challenge Italia in 2007 and started in the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia latest, returns to the Italian GT Championship and to being a pilota Ferrari with MERTEL Motorsport.
La Marca:„Driving the 488 Ferrari Challenge EVO in the Italian GT championship along with Marco Verzelli will be exiting. I am happy to be able to tackle this challenge with a strong, experienced team with MERTEL Motorsport.“

Tommaso Lovati, @tommasolovati_  promising young driver in his second season in GT, after finishing second in the GT4 Italy championship last year. MERTEL Motorsport is excited and thanks for the trust, fighting together for the Championship again.
 Lovati: “I can’t wait to start the season with the Ferrari colours and the support of MERTEL Motorsport, with whom I will have the honour of aiming to win the championship.”

Mauro Trentin @tre_ma78, long term racing driver in various Italian and international GT and Touring Car Championships, also experienced with Ferrari 430 an 458 will step up to the powerful 488 Challenge EVO with MERTEL and together with Lovati reach for a podium place.
