Double victory for MERTEL Motorsport at the 1.5 Hours of Silverstone by QRT
After Erik Carstensen (#111) and Pascal Bobert (#16) in the Ferrari qualified in 1st and 3rd place in the GT3 class, things got even better in the race. Bobert got the best start and was initially able to take the lead ahead of his teammates. This was followed by a three-way battle with the BMW of Lee King-Magee (#2). On lap 7 Bobert and Carstensen swapped places and Carstensen was able to build a comfortable gap. On lap 8, King-Magee, who was in third place, was touched on the rear axle during a lapping of the LMP2’s approaching from behind and flew off the track and was unable to resume the race. From this point on it seemed to be a controlled 1-2 for MERTEL Motorsport. However, it did not turn out to be that easy. On lap 13, Bobert was also unfortunately hit by an LMP2 and had to pit for repairs. However, he was able to make up the lost time and so, a quarter of an hour before the end of the race, they were again safe in the first two positions. When the safety car was sent out due to an accident, the whole field came together again. Carstensen and Bobert were able to hold their positions over the last 5 laps and relegated the BMW of Romuald Van-Nimmen (#25) to third. When the finish line was crossed after 44 laps, the joy at the successful debut was great.
