Ferrari Club Racing Series // Oldtimer Grand PrixNÜRBURGRING GP Circuit // 12.-14.8.2023

4 Ferraris for MERTEL Motorsport at the Nürburging in the Ferrari Club Racing Series at 50th OGP. First female driver in the series.

It was the 50th edition of the well-known Oldtimer Grand Prix at the Nürburgring – and MERTEL Motorsport entered 4 Ferraris. It was a variety of cars, from Ferrari 430 GTC of Jason Stuart, to 458 Challenge of Oliver Mayer and the actual Ferrari Challenge car, two 488 Challenge EVO with Ralf Goral and Anny Frosio. Competing in different classes of Race Ferraris from several decades is one of the characteristics of the FCD Racing Series, so we wanted to provide this. Nearly the wild, famous F40 would have been driven, too. Almost. But unfortunately it was a bad-tempered oil pump that prevented it from the start.

While on Friday the Nordschleife was experienced by the Ferrari Road cars with MERTEL Italo Cars Nürnberg, the qualifying oft the FCD Racing Series took place at the Grand Prix circuit. It was a magnificent racing and Ferrari Club event with a lot of emotions and glorious podiums for the MERTEL Motorsport drivers. The weather was better than Nürburgring typical – a bit of rain and a lot of sun – but good for the FCD Racing Series and their drivers – dry at both races.

Amongst the experienced racing drivers on the different cars, MERTEL Motorsport was able to bring an absolut novelty to the Ferrari Club Racing Series – Anny Frosio, the first female driver in the series ever! And to add some more „firsts“: it was Annys first time in the 488 Challenge EVO, her first real race – and her first time Nürburgring. She did well amongst the experienced racers – and als usual in the series – friends in the paddock, but they gave each other nothing on the track.

And that’s how our drivers did in class:

Cl. 7    #82  GORAL     488CH EVO    P3 / P2
            #80  FROSIO   488CH EVO    P7 / P7

Cl. 4    #46  MAYER     458CH             P1 / P1
             #3  STUART    430GTC          P2 / P2

Thank you Ferrari Club Racing Series for that great event ! It was fun!

See you next round and „Finali“ in Dijon 6 – 8. October 2023.
